Redcar/Cleveland Landlords Charter Scheme

Redcar and Cleveland have been working in partnership with private landlords since the launch of the Landlord Charter in May 2007. The aim of the Landlord Charter is to improve housing standards and develop effective partnership working with the private rented sector.

Project summary

The scheme works in partnership with local landlords (and agents) who are members of the Council's Landlord Charter to help people secure rented accommodation within the private sector

  • Housing Benefit assistance
  • Legal support on rights and responsibilities for tenants
  • Practical support for tenants (e.g. advice on setting up tenancy/deposit)
  • Property inspection
  • Referral to support services
  • Relevant certificates obtained before tenancy (Gas Safety Certificate etc)
  • Rent in advance
  • Tenancy support service

Assistance in acquiring of a property, maintaining a tenancy, and client support

Various - Self, website, call centre, other council departments, newsletters and word of mouth
