This website is a gateway to information onthe private rented sector in the UK. It collects the cumulative knowledge and experience of organisations that work with the PRS to prevent and tackle homelessness. It is divided into the following sections:
This section contains information about the characteristics of the PRS, its challenges and the opportunities available to homeless and other vulnerable groups. It also provides information on some of the legal details and aspects of the sector - including Empty Homes, Local Housing Allowance, and Landlord Accreditation - as well as links to information on the rights and responsibilities of landlords and tenants.
This section of the website will give you access to a variety good practice and practical resources including the Crisis good practice guide and CLG guidance. It is particularly valuable for those looking to develop a new or existing scheme. We have tried to pull together guidance from a wide range of agencies and statutory bodies but if you are aware of any additional resources that are not available here please let us know at
private.renting@crisis.org.uk.
Research about the PRS and related subjects can give insight to the sector, provide evidence for the advantages and disadvantages in the PRS and make the case for improvements. This section will give you access to a vast array of research, including Crisis cost benefit analysis for using PRS access schemes to house single homeless people.
This section will keep you up to date with any training and events relevant for staff working for statutory and voluntary agencies who run PRS access schemes or who are considering setting up a scheme.
This section contains a database of PRS schemes around the UK and some generic information on the types of model used. Search the database to find the contact details of other schemes and to check that the information for your scheme is accurate.
