Supporting clients in their tenancies

The PRS will not be suitable for all people, but can provide a home for tenants with a wide range of needs as long as a suitable level of support is provided. Furthermore, even those with relatively low support needs will benefit from some assistance during their tenancy and schemes should do their utmost to ensure that tenancies are sustainable and repeat homelessness is avoided wherever possible.

Chapter Five of the Crisis Good Practice Guide gives advice on how to assess the support needs of clients and how to assist clients in their search for a property. The chapter also provides guidance on some potential problems that may be faced by some specific groups, such as the under 25's, families, refugess and asylum seekers or drug users.

It's Your Move has developed training courses for people who want to live more independently - all delivered by frontline support workers. They also provide free resources on areas such as Pre-tenancy Training, Managing Your Tenancy, Money Management and Independent Living Skills.

The Supporting People programme offers vulnerable people the opportunity to improve their quality of life by providing a stable environment which enables greater independence. The Supporting People Directory provides details of local support services, whether you're looking for support in an new or existing home or just want advice on what support services are available in your area.
