This section of the website contains information about a range of schemes assist people with renting accommodation in the PRS.
If you need assistance in renting a property - or are a landlord looking to let your property - please see the searchable list of
private rented sector schemes produced in collaboration with
London Housing Foundation (LHF) and
Resource Information Service (RIS). This contains details of schemes throughout the UK and is searchable by the name of the local authority where they are based. The exact nature of the schemes detailed vary depending on the local area, housing market and whether it is run by the local authority housing department or a local voluntary agency.
Schemes are often referred to by a range of different terms including
rent deposit scheme, deposit guarantee schemes and bond schemes. This terminology itself can be unhelpful as deposits and guarantees only constitute one of the many elements of a successful scheme and the use of such terms can result in a reductive perspective of what they do, hence the growing usage of terminology such as
local lettings agencies or PRS access schemes.
Information is also available on other relevant types of schemes using the sidebar. More detailed guidance on the types of services that can be offered can be found in the
Good practice & resources section of the website, and evaluation and analysis of services and their associated outcomes and costs can be found in the
Research section.
